May 2012 USA Update: Hawker Beechcraft completed a two-month, around-the-world demonstration tour of the T-6C Texan II military trainer, showcasing the world’s most versatile and capable integrated pilot training system. The T-6C departed Wichita headquarters and followed a route that circled the globe, including stops in Canada, Greenland, Iceland, England, Italy, Greece, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, India, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Philippines, Japan and Russia before returning to Wichita the first week of May. While In New Zealand, it performed a low-altitude aerobatics in the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s (RNZAF) 75th Anniversary Air Show at RNZAF Base Ohakea.

May 2012 Peru Update: Korea and Peru will sign a US$200 million deal next month for 20 KT-1 trainer aircraft. It is the third country to use the KT-1 for initial pilot training after Indonesia and Turkey.

May 2012 India Update: IAF will spend USD $700 million to procure 75 x Pilatus PC-7 Mark II new pilot trainer aircraft from Pilatus to replace the grounded fleet of HPT-32 Trainer. The first 12 aircraft is likely to be inducted into the IAF by early 2014. According to the deal, the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will produce 145 aircraft (to be renamed as HAL Turbo Trainer-40) under licence from the manufacturer.

Saudi Arabia May 2012 UpdateSaudi Arabia to buy 30 BAE Hawk training aircraft for $800 million. These Hawk trainer isused to prepare pilots for the seventy new Typhoon jets recently acquired by the Royal Saudi Air Force.

USA Apr 2012 Update: NAS T-34 Turbo Mentor retired as the last student flight at NAS Whiting Fields. The first T-34 arrived at NAS Whiting Fields in Nov 1977 to replace the T-28. The fleet of T-34 clocked in 2.8 million flying hours and trained nearly 23,000 trainee pilots.

Philippines Apr 2012 Update: Russia has decided to join a tender on the delivery of six light fighter jets to the Philippines AF with its new Yakovlev Yak-130 Mitten combat trainer. The Italian Alenia Aermacchi M-346 and South Korea's KAI TA-50, are also competing in the tender. The results will be made public in three months time.

Afganistan Mar 2012 Update: Afghan AF achieves first fixed wing UPT flights in 30 years. Three US instructors paired with three Afghan students, as they took in three separate Cessna 183 aircraft, marking the first undergraduate pilot training.

India Mar 2012 Update: Indian Parliamentary panel expressed serious concern over the use of "outdated and aging" aircraft for training of over 200 young Indian Air Force pilots. Stage 1 of pilot training on the HPT-32 basic trainers was cut down from 150 flying hours to 75 hour and then to 25 hours before transitioning to intermediate jet training.

UAE Mar 2012 Update: UAEAF is still pondering about the proposed 48 x Alenia Aermacchi M-346 Master AJT valued nearly USD $1.4 billion.

USA Mar 2012 Update: USAF ordered a USD $6.8 million Hawker Beechcraft T6A trainer plane, with support services. Deliver is to be made before the end of 2014.

USA Feb 2012 Update: USAF cancelled a USD $355 million contract for 20 Embraer EMB-314 (A-29) Super Tucano aircraft, three ground-training devices and three years of support to Sierra Nevada Corporation. These light attack aircraft is to be used to train Afghan Air Force pilots as well as to provide close air support for the Afghan Army in the field. Delivery was to starts mid-2013.

Italy Feb 2012 Update: The second Alenia Aermacchi T-346A aircraft was delivered from the factory in Venegono Superiore to the Pratica di Mare Air Base, where the Experimental Flying Wing (RSV) will conduct tests prior to its operational deployment. Once the evaluation is complete, the first two T- 346As will be operated by the 61st Wing in Galatina-Lecce Air Base.

Feb 2012 Bangladesh Update: Bangladesh AF may purchase ten new Russian-built Yak-130 Advanced Jet Trainer.

Feb 2012 Singapore Update: Italian Air Force (AMI) Pilot Training Jet Aircraft T-346A visited Singapore Airshow 2012.

Feb 2012 Israel Update: Israel Air Force has opted for 30 new Italian-made Aermacchi M-346 Master Advanced Jet Trainer, rather than Korean T-50, to replace its aging fleet of A-4 Skyhawks Jet Trainers in a hotly contested $1 billion contract. Compatibility with the Lockheed Martin F-35 has helped the M-346 beat the South Korean deal. Delivery of M-346 starts in 2014.

Feb 2012 Australia Update: Flight Training Adelaide (FTA) has contracted to purchase 26 Diamond DA40 aircraft, to be based at Parafield, Australia. The 8 aircraft scheduled for 2012 deliveries with options for 18 additional aircraft scheduled for 2013 and 2014 delivery. The single engine Garmin G1000 equipped DA40s replace their aging single engine Socata TB10s and Grob 115s and will complement their seven DA42 L360 aircraft.
